About This Section

Entrez Gene summary for ISYNA1:
Myoinositol, the most common naturally occurring form of inositol, is a component of plasma membrane phospholipids and
functions as a cell signaling molecule. ISYNA1 (EC 5.5.1.4), or IPS, is a rate-limiting enzyme that catalyzes the de
novo synthesis of myoinositol 1-phosphate from glucose 6-phosphate (Seelan et al., 2004 (PubMed 15464731)).(supplied
by OMIM)

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: INO1_HUMAN, Q9NPH2
Function: Key enzyme in myo-inositol biosynthesis pathway that catalyzes the conversion of glucose 6-phosphate to
1-myo-inositol 1-phosphate in a NAD-dependent manner. Rate-limiting enzyme in the synthesis of all inositol-containing
compounds
